Benard Ojwang is the current Ag. Director for Environment at the City of Kisumu (Kenya). Benard holds a MSc in Urban Environmental planning and management, a BSc in Environmental Health and a Diploma in Environmental Resource Management. He is an environmental specialist and is registered EIA/SIA and Audit lead expert. His duties and responsibility entail: a) disseminating, implementing and ensuring compliance of the existing environmental policies, guidelines and manuals, laws and regulations in liaison with the County Director of Environment; b) oversee the implementation of policies on solid waste management, natural resource management and environmental quality control; c) promote environmental education and awareness creation; d) develop and implement Public Private Partnerships (PPP) guidelines for environmental services; and e) ensure compliance with various acts and regulations (such as the Environmental Management and Co-ordination act 1999 (Environmental Impact Assessment and Audit regulation (EIA/EA), Solid waste management regulation and Noise and vibration Regulations).
