Carlo Calfapietra is the Director of the Institute of Research on Terrestrial Ecosystems (IRET) of the National Research Council of Italy (CNR). He is expert in Nature-based Solutions and particularly in the relationships between vegetation and the environment. He is responsible of CNR for the National Biodiversity Future Centre and Coordinator of the NbS Italy Hub. He has published more than 100 papers and coordinated national and international projects on topics related to ecology and functional roles of natural and urban forests.
