
Cecilia Vicuña

Cecilia Vicuña is a poet, artist, filmmaker, and activist whose work addresses ecological destruction, human rights, and cultural homogenization. She was born in Chile and has been in exile since the early 1970s, after the military coup against elected president Salvador Allende. Her art has been exhibited and/or collected by the Tate Modern, London, among other museums, including: The Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro; The Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA), London; The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; and MoMA, The Museum of Modern Art, New York. Her art was included in documenta 14, Athens and Kassel, Germany, 2017. Vicuña has published twenty-five art and poetry books, including: About to Happen (2017); Read Thread, The Story of The Read Thread (2017); Spit Temple: The Selected Performances of Cecilia Vicuña (2012); Her Selected Poems is forthcoming from Kelsey Street Press in 2018. She lives and works in New York City.
