Elisabeth Peyroux, PhD, is a senior researcher at the National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS). She is currently based at the UMR Prodig in Paris after working several years in a research unit affiliated to the University of Toulouse II (LISST- Cieu). As urban geographer, she has specialized on urban governance, urban restructuring and socio-spatial transformation in Southern Africa (South Africa and Namibia), more particularly Johannesburg. She has engaged in debates about resilience and sustainable urban development as part of her research on urban planning in Johannesburg, as well as within the framework of the EU-funded “Chance2Sustain” research programme, which compares development trajectories of 10 cities in the Global South (http://www.chance2sustain.eu/7.0.html). Her current work focuses on the international circulation of urban policy models and on the increasing role of cities in international affairs.
