Eva Kunzová

Bratislava

Bratislava-based illustrator and comic artist Eva Kunzová creates little stories about nature and people. Curious about the natural world, she studied biology and zoology at Comenius University in Bratislava. However, thanks to her interest in art, she would often join fieldwork armed not only with scientific equipment but also a sketchbook and pencils. For her childhood interests in illustrations and comics, she self-studied these mediums and used them as tools for detailed observation of life. She took a chance to join a local NGO, where, under a supervision of a skilled psychologist learned to use art to heal and led creative workshops in a local hospital. Later on, she took part in the ART shapes mind project in Cluj-Napoca (Romania), where she helped to design art workshops for kids, focused on personal development and building mental resilience. Nowadays, her creative practice combines her interest in science, art, and storytelling. Not only using artistic methods to observe and learn, but also to tell stories and find accessible forms to share scientific research. Eva has illustrated books, created art for nature guides, and had her illustrations featured in magazines. In 2022 she took part in CreatureConserve’s Mentorship program, where she created a stand-alone experimental comics zine about the Vjosa river, one of the last wild rivers in Europe.
