Cape Town

Johan Enqvist is a postdoctoral researcher affiliated with the African Climate and Development Initiative at University of Cape Town and Stockholm Resilience Centre at Stockholm University. His PhD thesis explored stewardship in cities as expressed through civic activism in Bengaluru, India and New York City, USA. Currently, Johan investigates how a record-breaking three-year drought in Cape Town affected the city and its citizens, especially water services for the most vulnerable people in informal settlements and townships. More broadly, Johan is interested in urban sustainability, water resources, and how people can individually and collectively form stronger links with nature and alliances to promote the elements of sustainability that formal governance structures often fail to establish. He currently tries to learn more about what underpins pro-environmental behaviour and how positive changes can be maintained over time.
