Kati is experienced biologist and environmental scientist studying social-ecological system from different aspects. She is interested in human-nature interactions, social justice and ecological sustainability in urban context. She has also studied sustainability trade-offs in Finnish forestry, cultural ecosystem services and biocultural diversity in the urban context. In the Green Surge project (2013-2017), she developed analytical concepts for urban biocultural diversity (BCD) together with Wageningen researcher. Kati has had several stakeholder roles beside her academic career, and she has worked closely with various stakeholders, such as artists, political decision-makers, land-use planners, city officers, NGOs. In her current position, Kati coordinates EU funded EIT Food activities at the University of Helsinki. The aim of EIT Food is to enhance interaction between business, people and research to find innovative solutions for more sustainable and transparent food system together.
