Kristina Hill is a scholar of design and planning. She develops urban design strategies based on ecological and geomorphological research. Currently, Hill works on adaptation strategies for sea level rise in coastal California, with a focus on biodiversity, new development approaches, and social justice. Previously, she helped develop the regional water strategy for New Orleans. Hill was recently the guest editor for the 100th anniversary issue of Frontiers in Ecology and Environment, published by the Ecological Society of America. She published Ecology and Design in 2002 (Island Press). Hill received her PhD from Harvard University, and is an associate professor at UC Berkeley in landscape architecture and environmental planning. Hill also served as a founding board member and the head of a public transit agency in Seattle, the Seattle Popular Monorail Authority. She consults and lectures internationally on new approaches to urban infrastructure for climate adaptation.
