Lausanne Olvitt qualified as a high school English teacher in 1994 and commenced a seven-year teaching career in KwaZulu-Natal as well as a year of locum teaching in London. In 2004, Lausanne graduated from Rhodes University with a Masters Degree in Environmental Education and, in that same year, was appointed on contract by Rhodes in the then-Environmental Education Unit (now ELRC). For five years she developed and tutored on professional development courses for environmental educators. Lausanne’s PhD investigated the ethics-oriented reflexive deliberations of novice environmental educators. Since 2009, Lausanne has been a tenured staff member in the Education Department at Rhodes University and currently teaches at Honours, Masters and Doctoral levels.
