Dr. Leonie K. Fischer is a plant ecologist dedicated to various aspects of vegetation dynamics and nature conservation in urban landscapes, including urban grasslands; urban restoration; and the study of biodiversity patterns in urban areas. She works at the Department of Ecology, Ecosystem Sciences/Plant Ecology at the Technische Universität Berlin, and teaches in the fields of landscape planning, landscape architecture and urban ecology. She is engaged in urban restoration projects on wasteland sites because of her interest in understanding dynamics in novel ecosystems. Being a trained gardener and landscape planner, she aims to combine biodiversity issues and aesthetics in an urban context. Currently, Leonie’s main focus of research is to find out how urban residents value and perceive urban green infrastructure, and how certain preferences can be integrated into design and planning.
