Melissa A. Barton heads the Urban Biodiversity Hub’s Research and Development team and is a steering committee member. She is an independent researcher based in Portland, Oregon, USA; her current research focuses on nature-based solutions, green infrastructure, and urban biodiversity, and she is a member of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities Sustainable Cities and Landscapes Hub’s Urban Biodiversity Working Group. She earned an MSc degree in Environmental Science, Policy and Management in a joint program with Lund University, Central European University, and the University of Manchester, as well as a BA degree in Geology from Colorado College. Previously, she worked for the National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON) and the U.S. National Park Service.
