Reiko Goto Collins
Glasgow
Reiko Goto and Tim Collins are environmental artists, working together since 1985. They have developed a unique and interdisciplinary practice that combines art, ecology and social engagement. Their work centers on natural public places and everyday experiences of environmental commons. It is infused with an ethical-aesthetic impulse, and aims to create opportunities for reflection, dialogue and action.
Tim Collins and Reiko Goto use an ecosystem approach in their work. They collaborate with various disciplines, communities and living things to investigate the impact of art and imagination on practical wisdom and democratic discourse on ethics and human values. Through their projects, they seek to foster new forms of understanding and stewardship of the natural world, and to explore the potential of art to shape and inspire more equitable and sustainable societies.
Goto employs an experimental practice of empathic exchange with people, places, and things. She earned her PhD in Ecology and Environmental Art in Public Places in 2012. Collins is driven by the pursuit of transformative experiences and ideas that can empower people, places and things. He received his PhD in Art, Ecology, and Planning in 2007.
