Roby Biwer is the former Mayor and currently councillor of the municipality of Bettembourg, in Luxembourg. He is an active member of the largest Luxembourgish association for the protection of nature and environment (natur&ëmwelt), and since 2013, its national president. Roby Biwer has also been president for 18 years of SICONA, a group of 21 municipalities which is engaged in synergies to protect and improve natural habitats and biodiversity as well as helping national government in implementing the Birds and Habitats EU Directives. He is member of the Commission for Environment, Climate change and Energy (ENVE) and the Commission for Natural Resources (NAT) at the European Committee of the Regions (CoR). He was rapporteur for several CoR opinions on biodiversity, forests and nature such as “Bio-diverse cities and regions beyond 2020 at the UN CBD COP 15 and in the next EU strategy”, “EU Nature Restoration Law”, “Stepping up EU Action to Protect and Restore the World’s Forests”, “Contribution of EU local and regional authorities to the CBD COP 14”, and “Contribution to the REFIT process for the EU Birds and Habitats Directives”.
