Suraya is a lecturer in the environmental and geographical sciences department, and postdoctoral researcher within the African Centre for Cities, at the University of Cape Town. She is interested in examining the politics and power geometries engaged in producing unjust urban forms, and relatedly the possibilities that exist in opening-up more just alternatives. To date, she has explored these questions through examining water flows in the South African city, and more recently everyday practices of residents living in peripheral urban spaces within the City of Cape Town.
