Dr. Zoé Hamstead is an urban ecologist and Assistant Professor of environmental planning at the University at Buffalo School of Architecture & Planning. Her research and practice focus on urban resilience and sustainability planning in the context of climate change. Building on interdisciplinary approaches in urban planning, geography, urban ecology and landscape ecology, she examines geographic disparities in access to environmental resources and vulnerability to environmental threats—particularly extreme heat events. Her work has been funded by the Environmental Protection Agency STAR program and the National Science Foundation IGERT program. Zoé’s current and recent teaching—which often includes a civic engagement component—addresses topics in environmental planning and policy, spatial thinking with geographic information systems and urban ecology.
